The Women’s Forum (Sierra Leone) was established in February 1994, three years into the eleven-year rebel war, as the national women’s umbrella organisation for women’s organisation in the country. Its establishment was in response to the need for a nationwide network of women’s non-governmental organisations that would take collective initiative for the overall advancement of women and girls throughout the country. It was also intended to provide a platform for the sharing of ideas of issues of common concern to women in Sierra Leone as well as for joint planning and advocacy. It has a current membership of over 300 women’s organisation.
